U20 World Cup: Italy and Uruguay in the final – Casadei with 7th tournament goal

South Korea & Israel out

The final of the U20 World Cup 2023 takes place on Sunday at 11 p.m. between Uruguay and Italy. In the semifinals in Argentina on Thursday, the two teams defeated Israel 1-0 and South Korea 2-1, who also played the game for third place on Sunday (7:30 p.m.).

Uruguay kept a clean sheet against Israel for the fifth time in six games of the tournament, the only goalkeeper Randall Rodríguez falling behind in the group stage defeat by England (2-3). Defensor SC winger Anderson Duarte scored the decisive goal in the semifinals in the 61st minute.

Italy were once again led by Chelsea talent Cesare Casadei against 2019 finalists East Asia. Inter Milan’s homegrown player scored his seventh goal of the tournament in the 14th minute, which means that the midfielder’s top scorer’s crown can hardly be taken away from him (to the scorer list of the U20 World Cup). South Korea equalized in the 23rd minute through Seung-won Lee, but 17-year-old Simone Pafundi from Udinese Calcio scored the winning goal with a dream free-kick shortly before the end (86th).
