The Disney Plus documentary Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman premiered on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, along with new album Songs of Surrender. In it they dedicate their own song to their longtime friend, which is not on the album.

40 Foot Man was inspired by a visit the trio made to Forty Foot, a popular headland in south Dublin, where Letterman went swimming. “When we were in the library and me this one [Song] I was speechless when it was presented,” said the former TV host during the premiere of “A Sort of Homecoming” at the Orpheum Theater Los Angeles.

“I just thought, ‘At 3 a.m. they write a song – and it’s about me!’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m glad this is over.’ And then it turned out, ‘Oh no, it’s not over. It’s a real song!’ I can’t even begin to say what a lovely gesture and what a gift that was,” he thanked the two U2 musicians before Bono intoned an a cappella version of the song.

The rockumentary featuring concert clips from the band is available on Disney Plus.
