Tygo Gernandt has received a generous lump sum from AvroTros, TV authority Tina Nijkamp suspects. “That is quite common in the media world. So that wouldn’t surprise me.”
The AvroTros has been a huge hit: the broadcaster said in 2023 that Tygo Gernandt had suddenly given up his role in the hit series Flikken Maastricht due to ‘private circumstances’, but that turned out to be a lie. Privé has revealed that he has been summarily dismissed due to an incident, and Tygo has now confirmed this himself.
Crazy and special
Tygo misbehaved with a female colleague during a work trip to Maastricht, and of course there is little ‘private’ about that. In other words: they lie that they are bursting at AvroTros. Why do they do that?
TV authority Tina Nijkamp has gone through Tygo’s statement and says in her podcast Tina’s TV Update: “What’s crazy or special about this? I personally find it very strange that he does not actually address the victim. I think it is very legal because I think he has discussed this with a lawyer, this statement.”
Secrecy
Tygo itself points out that research showed that it was not officially inappropriate behavior. “I also thought that was very legal. I think this is due to the NDA: a non-disclosure agreement appears to have been signed. Who or what, no one knows, but it could have something to do with that.”
“And that would also explain why AvroTros said that Tygo had to leave the set due to private circumstances. That could have been a one-two punch between AvroTros and Tygo’s lawyer.”
One-two
Why a one-two punch? “Because the producer and AvroTros said: ‘Tygo, you are no longer allowed on the set.’ Then Tygo’s lawyer said of course: ‘Yes, that’s true, it was an incident, but he didn’t do anything transgressive, so why do you just fire him? That’s not allowed!’ That is also quite difficult in employment law.”
“It could be that Tygo and his lawyer have come up with a deal with AvroTros and producer Warner, something like: ‘Listen, you pay Tygo a lump sum, because he will of course not have any income from that role in the near future and then we will close that deal in an NDA. Then we put all that information in a non-disclosure agreement.’”
Usual
Tygo has therefore accepted a tax-funded lump sum, Tina thinks. “That’s pretty good common In the media world, it sometimes happens that a separation takes place in good consultation, but a lump sum is then given. That wouldn’t surprise me.”
“The AvroTros actually lied, because these were of course not private circumstances. It occurred during a work trip.”
