Around 5 a.m., the PZ Vlas dispatching was alerted by a witness who saw how two suspects had broken a small window of a light truck on the Marksesteenweg in Kortrijk and fled shortly afterwards.
Laptop
Several night patrols immediately arrived on the scene to start a search. With success, because shortly afterwards two suspects on a bicycle were spotted and stopped. During the initial investigation, the police found a backpack containing a laptop on the suspects. It turned out to have been stolen from the light truck shortly before.
Illegal
The men, both adults, were arrested and taken to the police station. During further investigation, more stolen items were found. These also turned out to have been stolen from several vehicles that same night. It was the loot from a series of at least eight burglaries (or burglary attempts), mainly committed in and around the Marksesteenweg. It also became clear that both suspects were staying in the country illegally.
Prison
Both men were brought before the investigating judge on Monday, October 13. He decided to arrest them and have them transferred to prison. The investigation is currently in full swing. It is being investigated whether the duo is also eligible for recent thefts from vehicles.
