The accident happened around 7.30 pm. A passenger car drove an old tractor. He ended up in the canal and broke in two. Both drivers suffered serious injuries. It is a man of 72 from Staden and a man of 35 years. The cause of the accident is unknown. Possibly the motorist was blinded by the sun and he saw the tractor too late.
Due to the accident, the Rijksweg was closed for a while between the Meensesteenweg and the Moorseelsesteenweg.
