Cologne succeeds in an important second division victory because Darmstadt distributes even more gifts than the Cologne team itself.
The 1. FC Köln collected 98 important points in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga with a 2: 1 (1: 1) victory against SV Darmstadt. Jan Thielmann (1st) and Luca Waldschmidt (80th, penalty) scored the Cologne goals on Saturday. Fraser Hornby (25th, trading) equalized in the meantime and saw the yellow-red card in the 66th minute.
Darmstadt had put a horror start in the person of Sergio Lopez. The right -back played far too imprecisely towards goalkeeper Marcel Schuen, so Thielmann was able to sprint in between. He overcame shoes without problems and after 49 seconds the ball flew into the guest goal.
Afterwards very little happened until Dominique Heintz was so polite to give back a goal. He negligently caused a penalty by stretching his arm far up in the header duel. It was only to the video assistant that Hornby’s actually a harmless header had crashed into the arm said. Hornby turned from the point with a rich shot into the left corner.
Lemperle and Uth back in the squad
The game remained playful. The lack of important offensive forces was noted: Linton Maina and Damion Downs were injured, Tim Lemperle was sitting on the bench again after a ten competitive break, where the permanent injured Mark Uth took a seat again.
FC-Sturmspitze Steffen Tigges, who again received the preference before winter access Imad Rondic, hung in the air as well as on the other side the Sturmduo Hornby and ISAC Lidberg. So it went into the break without further highlights.
Struber tries with chain of four
Cologne’s coach Gerhard Struber made a triple and a system change at halftime. He relied on a chain of four – his preferred tactic from the initial phase of the season. He had given them up after a 1: 5 in the first leg in Darmstadt. The FC stabilized with a chain of five and won a total of eight times minimalist with 1-0.
Against Darmstadt, the spontaneous return to the chain of four – and rooms for the opponent were created directly again. Hornby almost used this two minutes after the break, but Marvin Schwäbe parried heavily. The game now became lively and Cologne also graduated from an 18-meter shot by substitute Denis Huseinbasic (52nd).
Hornby’s blackout and Lidberg kick
After an hour, Hornby made a superfluous dismissal. Freshly warned because of the ball of the ball, he grabbed the center line violently into Cologne right -back Jusuf Gazibegovic. Hornby saw yellow-red and Gazibegovic had to be injured from the field. For him, Lemperle came to his combs.
FC also needed further protecting help for the leadership. Lidberg was just too late in his own penalty area, Hüber’s foot met instead of the ball. Referee Florian Issue recognized the foul on the screen and Waldschmidt confidently sank the penalty.
Afterwards, FC missed it despite several good options, including Lemperle hit the post. So it remained exciting until the end, Aleksandar Vukovic still had the equalizer on his head deep in the eight -minute stop time.
