The German ski jumpers got off to a great start at the start of the Two-Nights Tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Selina Freitag came second behind Nika Prevc on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2025).
Immediately after landing, her right fist went into the sky, half a minute later she celebrated alongside her two teammates when the “1” lit up – after that, Friday was only overtaken by the Slovenian high-flyer Nika Prevc.
Second place on Friday is definitely a brilliant start to the Two-Nights Tour, which will probably be replaced by the first women’s Four Hills Tour next year. For Prevc it was already World Cup victory number 27. Freitag celebrated the success: “Today’s podium means a lot to me. I’ve finally been rewarded for my hard work.”
National coach Heinz Kuttin said after the first jump on ZDF: “That looked very good, it was a really good jump. Everything is possible for Selina.” Shortly afterwards he saw himself confirmed.
Schmid and Reisch in the top eight
Katharina Schmid, who has announced her retirement from competitive sports at the end of the season, was in seventh place after the first round and also showed a decent performance in the second round. Shortly after landing it was clear: She finished the jumping on equal points with Agnes Reisch, who delivered a great competition. In the end, the German duo ended up tied for eighth place.
What is probably the last edition of the “Two Nights Tour” ends on New Year’s Day with the competition in Oberstdorf (4:15 p.m./live ticker at sportschau.de). Starting next season, a full-fledged Four Hills Tournament for women will finally be held at all four traditional locations; according to the “Garmisch model”, the women’s competition will be held on the men’s day. The okay was recently given for the construction of a floodlight system in Innsbruck, which has so far been a sticking point.
