The investigating judge in Veurne has arrested two men aged 23 and 24 in an investigation into helpdesk fraud. This was reported by the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, Veurne department. The suspects are said to have posed as bank employees.
At the beginning of May, an older woman from Middelkerke was contacted by telephone by a so-called bank employee. She provided her bank details, after which her computer was taken over remotely. Shortly afterwards, a suspect came to collect her bank card. “Without the victim’s knowledge, large amounts of money were transferred and withdrawn with the stolen card,” the public prosecutor’s office said.
