Two in the saddle – Olympic champion von Werndl-Bredow is looking forward to the “Partner horse”, equestrian sport | World Cup in Leipzig – MDR – Regional

“I’m looking forward to my personal highlight this season – the World Cup final in Leipzig. The fact that there are two of me in the saddle is something very special,” says Jessica von Bredow-Werndl in the “SpiO breakfast” on Monday ( 4. April). The 2021 Olympic dressage champion will be a guest at the “Partner Horse” in Leipzig, which begins on Wednesday. And not alone, the 36-year-old is expecting her second child: “Yes, it can no longer be completely hidden, but I feel fit and comfortable in the saddle.”

favorite? “You’d better shut up and ride”

With her first baby, she was able to sit longer in the saddle: “If things go like they did with my last pregnancy, I’ll be able to ride for a long time.” After an event in Austria, your international career would like to be put on hold. In Leipzig she is one of the favorites. She describes her personal goal as follows: “I want to do my best. I do well to keep my mouth shut and ride, that has been my motto for the last few years. And that’s how I’ll continue. We’ll do our best if I give in can say after the test, then I’m happy.”

She’s happy when it looks easy: “It should look like we riders don’t do anything. Rider and horse should form a unit, have built up a partnership. That’s the fascinating thing about dressage. After a kind of training, which lasts six to eight years, the interplay should look very fine.” A dressage rider as a horse whisperer.

Only in Leipzig four World Cup finals at once

In general, this year’s “Partner Horse” is a unique event worldwide. Only here are four World Cup finals held at once: in addition to dressage, there are also the disciplines of jumping, driving and vaulting. Tickets are still available for every day. Organizer Volker Wulff says: “Because of Corona, we had to hold back a bit with advance sales.” Among other things, there are “1 for 2” tickets on Thursday. Then there will also be charity campaigns for the Ukraine aid. Specifically, “Partner Pferd” supports the “Leipziger Crowd” fundraising campaign and would like to collect for Ukrainian stunt riders from near Kyiv.

No mask and distance requirement

At the “Partner Pferd” there will be no mask and distance requirement: “We only appeal to the personal responsibility of the guests. Corona is not over yet. But we are pleased that we can hold the event without restrictions.” He has learned that he has to “jitter” in advance whether the event can even go up.

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl is also happy about it. Even if work is the order of the day for the woman from Rosenheim: “It starts tomorrow. But it’s always quite a packing job.” After all, child no. 1 is also there…
