Two Belgian mountaineers have been killed while climbing the Tête de Milon, near the Swiss mountain village of Zinal. This is reported by the police of the canton of Valais. A French woman also died in the fall at an altitude of about 3,400 meters.

The three victims, along with two other mountaineers, left the Arpitettaz mountain hut – at an altitude of 2,800 meters – to continue their climb. They split into two groups. The trio secured the ropes together and thus formed a group.

While climbing the ridge, the trio suddenly fell down. According to the police, their ropes have given way. The two others immediately contacted emergency services through Arpitettaz’s mountain refuge. Two helicopters eventually arrived on the scene. The three victims were found dead, their two fellow group members were evacuated.

It concerns two Belgian men of 31 years and a French of 28 years. The alpinists were not accompanied by professional guides. The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
