There are plans to give a maximum of twelve young people with a residence permit a place to live in a farm in Nieuw-Roden. It is intended that the young people come to live there in May. Yesterday, the municipality of Noordenveld organized a walk -in evening for local residents to take a look and to discuss the plans.

According to a spokesperson, there were more than sixty local residents. In addition to civil servants, there were also employees of organizations that work with young status holders to answer questions and to remove possible worries.

The atmosphere in the busy farmhouse was pleasant. Many questions were asked and people shared their worries. For example, several people wanted to know what would come for young people and whether there have been incidents with the current group living in Norg. They move to New Roden when everything goes on.

Employees of the PIT assistance and Nidos, who also work with the young people in Norg, talked about their experiences with the current group. According to them there have been no incidents. “If something happens, they also have themselves with it.”

The status holders are between 15 and 18 years old. They receive guidance day and night and are prepared to stand on their own two feet in the Netherlands. For example, they have to go to school just like Dutch young people, they can have a part -time job and they can be a member of a sports club.

The group in Norg consists of seven young people. Because that location closes for them, the municipality is looking for a new place. A call was made for this in 2024. The owner of the farm in Nieuw-Roden offers his now vacant property as a new place.

In principle, the young people live there until they were eighteen and then go out of the house. In some cases they may stay longer, for example for trauma processing or because they cannot yet get their own home.

With the walk -in evening, the municipality wanted to get reactions from local residents before the mayor and aldermen take a decision. At the moment, only a request has been submitted to offer the location. If the college gives green light, a permit can be applied for.

When that happens, it is possible to object. If all procedures have been completed positively, the young people could move in May or June.
