On the day of the election, the local branch of the party mistakenly posted a message, which especially opponent GroenLinks had a good laugh about. In the message, D66 once again gave voting advice for its own party, but the accompanying photo showed something really different.
The image shows the result of the Stemwijzer. And what turned out? Not D66, but GroenLinks was circled as advice. This one will go down in the history books. Or: ‘Just like D66, vote for GroenLinks’, were reactions from readers.
Board chairman of GroenLinks Meppel Bort Hartog, who is currently recovering from corona, also responded: ‘My airways are almost clear again because of this tweet, haha.’
D66 rushed to delete the tweet, but the damage was already done: countless followers, mainly supporters of GroenLinks, had already taken a screenshot of the message and shared it again among their followers.
