It is a special year for singer Henk Wijngaard. The Emmen resident is celebrating his eightieth birthday, has been married for sixty years and has been in the business for fifty years. And you can celebrate this party tonight via TV Drenthe.
More than a month ago, the singer gave a special anniversary concert in Nieuwleusen. A recording of this evening can be seen on TV Drenthe from 5.15 pm. 80 years of Henk Wijngaard is repeated several times in the evening.
In the run-up to the concert, Wijngaard was put in the spotlight with a very special gift. On May 9, he got behind the wheel of the yellow truck that was an important part of his music career for years.
Partly because of that yellow truck, Henk Wijngaard also has the nickname truck troubadour. He traveled to all kinds of performances in the yellow truck. And the striking vehicle is also depicted on several of his record covers.
Fans of the Drenthe singer and Nico Silvius from RadioNL managed to track down the truck and restore it. And so the yellow truck drove back into his life on May 9, the day of the anniversary concert.
Henk Wijngaard had to shed a tear when he was reunited with his truck: “This is a wonderful moment. A wonderful moment. I have no words for that.”
