De Munck is very confident about his medal chances at the World Championships. “I have updated my horse vaulting exercises, so I plan to do a new exercise in Jakarta. I am confident that I can perform it and the difficulty level (6.0 ed.) increases my medal chances. I need that difficulty and good execution to have a chance of reaching the final.”

The scoring for horse vaulting is based on a combination of the difficulty (D score) and the execution (E score). The more difficult the exercise by a gymnast, the higher the D score.

Aware of the competition

The Haarlemmer is very aware of the competition. “Armenia always has good participants, just like Nariman Kurbanov (Kazakhstan) or Ahmad Abu Al-Soud (Jordan). We should not forget Gabriele Targhetta (Italy). Russia can participate again under a neutral flag for the first time in five years. They are all formidable opponents.”
