Bird flu has been diagnosed on a turkey farm in Ysselsteyn, Limburg. This also has consequences for companies in our province, in the Venray-Deurne-Sevenum triangle.

At the company in Ysselsteyn, all 23,000 turkeys are killed to prevent further spread of the contagious virus. An immediate transport ban for poultry, eggs and manure applies in a zone of ten kilometers around the affected company. This affects 54 companies in the sector. Seven of those companies are located less than three kilometers from the turkey farm and will be closely monitored by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) in the near future.

Some of the businesses were already facing restrictions due to an outbreak in nearby Tienray on November 25.

Bird flu is spreading widely in the Netherlands and other European countries, both among wild birds and in poultry farming. There is a lot of unrest about this in the sector. Nationally, all poultry is required to be kept in cages.
