Turkey earthquake: Ex-Chelsea professional Christian Atsu from Hatayspor died

Died at the age of 31

Now there is sad certainty: Hatayspor professional Christian Atsu died in the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region at the age of 31. This was confirmed by his advisor Nana Sechere via Twitter. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce to all supporters that Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning,” he wrote. “My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.”

A day before the earthquake, Atsu had scored the winning goal for Hatayspor shortly before the end of the league duel against Kasimpasa, who were also in danger of relegation. The former Ghana international, who played for FC Porto, FC Chelsea and FC Málaga in his career, joined Hatayspor last summer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Raed. The Süper Lig club has already withdrawn from the game.
