Barça reached an agreement for the Portuguese footballer in January 2022, but the financial ‘fair play’ did not allow the operation to be closed

In the winter of 2022, a few months after Xavi Hernández became the coach of FC Barcelona, the club launched into the transfer market to improve the first team squad. The objective was to add gunpowder to an attack where goals were scarce. In addition to Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Adama Traoré and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived; although another footballer could have arrived.
The newspaper ‘as’ reports that Barça and Atlético de Madrid reached an agreement in principle by João Félix, whose negotiations were led by Miguel Ángel Gil and Mateu Alemany. The operation would have been closed at 70 million euros and the blaugrana would have obtained the federative rights and the co-ownership of the economic rights of the Portuguese.
Said amount could have reached 135 million euros in concept of different objectives achieved, as well as the total acquisition owned by the Portuguese striker. However, the tight financial ‘fair play’ of the blaugrana entity prevented the operation from being completed and João Félix remained at Atlético de Madrid.
A year later, the footballer has headed to London to become a new Chelsea player. In his debut, he was sent off after 58 minutes (against Fulham in a 2-1 defeat) and subsequently he has added two more matches: against West Ham in the Premier League, debuting as a scorer (1-1) and against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 (1-0 defeat).
João Félix signed for Chelsea on loan, in exchange for 11 million euros for his services for the remainder of the season. The ‘blues’ will try to convert the loan into a full-fledged transfer, but at Atlético de Madrid they would not accept it, for the moment. Everything that happens with the forward in the mattress club is subject to the continuity or departure of ‘Cholo’ Simeone.
