The Granata president: “The victory was good. In the first half we didn’t work, then I saw different things”

From our correspondent Mario Pagliara

October 26 – 11.50pm – TURIN

One step at a time he is seeing his Taurus grow and add a little more every week. Yesterday was the moment of heart, of courage, of a heavy victory achieved by coming from behind and enriched by an adrenaline-filled finish. The president of Torino, Urbano Cairo, is satisfied: yesterday he applauded the team for having achieved the second consecutive victory after the blow scored against Napoli. “The victory was very good – explains president Cairo -. In the first half the team wasn’t moving, but in the second half I saw different things. The substitutions also helped, and then Maripan played the bomber. So… great!”. The performance of the Chilean defender was almost like an added centre-forward: three of the six shots on target taken by the Granata were from Maripan. One of these was worth the three points.

Carry on like this Toro rises to eleven points and begins to build an interesting streak: it is the third consecutive useful result (the draw with Lazio and the two victories against Napoli and Genoa) in eight days. “We took the right path – reflects the Granata number one -: the other Saturday we won against Napoli, now against Genoa, before that we played a great match against Lazio but unfortunately the draw came. So, I would say good. We need to continue like this”. Today the team returns to training, the day after tomorrow they travel to Bologna for the midweek. “The next one is a difficult match against Bologna, but we have to go there with the same desire to win that we had today (yesterday for those reading this, ed.)”.

the right time

Perhaps, for the first time since August, Marco Baroni melts into a smile in front of the reporters. His face is more relaxed, you can see the satisfaction in his eyes. “At this moment it was important to win to give continuity and for the result – says the coach -, we succeeded. Which is why I congratulate all my players. These matches are the most complicated, the most difficult: we take it home, it enters our growth path which is progressing very well”. A victory worth its weight in gold, he says about the progress of the match: “At half-time I turned the dressing room upside down because we started off limp, with little rhythm. We had to play a different first half: we played slowly, creating enormous advantages for Genoa. At half-time I asked for a different reaction, of impetus, of energy. And it was there.” He adds: “Every match is an exam, it’s an opportunity for growth: this too was, we’re happy, we’re moving forward and there’s a lot of work to be done. I believe in this group, I think it has significant margins for improvement, starting with the fact that all matches must start immediately with vehemence and pace.”

the taste

The icing could be the great response that Baroni received from those who play less. Starting from Paleari, passing through all the successors. “I don’t leave anyone behind: I have received the best satisfaction in my career from those who play less, I pay the main attention to them. Everyone has entered well, so a strong group is created and the team benefits from it.” Tameze? “Having players like him with body and mind in the project is a great thing.” On Paleari: «I never had any doubts: he is a captain of the locker room, he trains as a starter.”
