Tupac Shakur: Prison documents are being auctioned off

On February 28, 1995, a manhunt was announced for Tupac Shakur because the rapper was due to appear in court and ultimately go to prison on sexual abuse charges. This mugshot and prison ID card from his time at Clinton Correctional Facility in New York are now being sold at auction.

The auction website “Moments In Time” is auctioning off the rap legend’s two previously unseen memorabilia – prices available upon request. According to TMZ, the mugshot could bring in around $35,000 (around €33,000). The prison card is expected to cost around 75,000 US dollars (around 61,860 euros).

The photo is a black and white picture of Tupac Shakur, dated the day of the manhunt. The prison ID card shows a photo of the inmate, his name, ID number, height, and eye and hair color. However, it is probably not the original ID card, but a replacement, as the rapper would have lost the original. This is evident from the papers included with the ID card.

“I lost my ID and need a new one. “Thank you,” Tupac wrote by hand on a form that should also be given to the person who purchased the ID. The original ID card was auctioned off in 2019 for around 30,000 US dollars (28,300 euros) and was the musician’s most expensive memorabilia to date. At the beginning of 2023, this record was replaced when Drake bought a ring for one million US dollars (780,000 euros).

2Pac died on September 13, 1996. After being shot four times in a car, he died six days later as a result of his injuries.
