Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle announced on Monday that the club has fired its head coach Toomas Sammelvuo.

The club justified the decision with weak results. Last season, Sammelvuo coached Zaksa to second place in the Polish league, champion of the Polish Cup and victory in the Champions League.

At kick-off, Zaksa is ninth in the Polish league. Sammelvuo became Zaksa’s head coach in August 2022. The contract was due to expire in the coming spring.

Only two players changed in Zaksa from last season, but due to injuries, three new players have joined the group after the end of the summer.

– We currently have seven players completely sidelined. There are probably reasons for this: game rumba and national team assignments. After the long last season, our national team members were still stuck with their national teams all summer. The situation is difficult when you can’t practice, Sammelvuo told Iltalehte in December.

Sammelvuo is still coaching the Canadian national team. Canada created a sensation when it was among the first countries to secure a place at next summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
