TSG Hoffenheim has presented the third new signing for the coming season. Patrick Wimmer is moving from Bundesliga relegated VfL Wolfsburg to the Europa League participant. TSG is making use of an exit clause in Wimmer’s contract, which “Kicker” and “Sky” put at around 10 million euros. The working paper therefore runs until 2031.

“Patrick’s profile allows him to be used variably offensively and has already proven his qualities in the Bundesliga. He fits perfectly into our game idea due to his intense style of play and duel quality,” said sports director Paul Pajduch. “After VfL Wolfsburg was relegated, Patrick had a number of offers from home and abroad. We are all the more pleased that we were able to win him over to our TSG path. We are convinced that he will not only strengthen us straight away, but can also take further steps in his development himself.”

Wimmer, who is going to the 2026 World Cup with Austria, added: “TSG Hoffenheim made an impressive development last season, with exciting players and intense and attractive football. I also know the coach from our time together at Austria Vienna, when I became a professional under Chris Ilzer. I am very pleased to be able to work under him again in Hoffenheim. I would also like to particularly thank Andreas Schicker and Paul Pajduch for the good conversations have completely convinced me.”

Wimmer moved from Arminia Bielefeld to Lower Saxony in 2022 for 5 million euros, where he was involved in 32 goals in 104 games. Last season he scored four goals and six assists in 27 games, but was unable to prevent the Wolves from being relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. The 25-year-old offensive player was missing in both relegation games against SC Paderborn due to injury.

After Cajetan Lenz (10 million, Bochum) and Alessandro Vogt (2.7 million, St. Gallen), Wimmer is the third new signing for TSG. The club from Kraichgau has paid a double-digit million sum 13 times in its history. Together with Robert Skov, Lenz and Bazoumana Touré, he ranks tenth among the most expensive Hoffenheim signings. However, TSG is attracted by sponsor Christian Ilzer, who made him a professional at Austria Vienna in December 2019 at the age of 18 years and six months. In 19 games under him, Wimmer contributed two goals and two assists.
