In a very exciting final competition, three Austrians fought for the tournament victory. In the end, Daniel Tschofenig prevailed.
Daniel Tschofenig won the last competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen and thus secured overall victory. The Austrian prevailed in a real thriller with jumps of 136 and 140.5 and meters against his teammates Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft and thus received the Golden Eagle for the overall tour victory.
Tschofenig also benefited from the bad luck of his compatriot Kraft. He was actually in the lead after the first round, but just before he came down as the last jumper, the wind picked up and forced the 31-year-old to wait a long time. When Kraft was finally allowed to jump, his routine was definitely disrupted – a circumstance that he could no longer compensate for, even with all his experience. His 137.5 meters were only enough for third place in the daily ranking and the overall ranking. The tour victory was gone.
In addition to the Golden Eagle, Tschofenig will receive prize money of 100,000 Swiss francs (around 106,000 euros). Austria had to wait exactly ten years to the day for an overall victory in the traditional event. Back then, strength still prevailed. Hörl took second place both on Monday and in the final results.
National coach Stefan Horngacher’s team, which had no chance during the tour, had a weak finish. In front of 14,300 spectators, Andreas Wellinger was the best German in ninth place. Pius Paschke (12th), Philipp Raimund (15th) and Karl Geiger (23rd) also made it to the second round.
