Kallas: Diplomacy is some way to solution for Iran-Israel

The European Foreign Ministers agree that a diplomatic solution is “the best way to tackle the Iranian nuclear program in the long term”. That said EU-Buitenland chef Kaja Kallas during a press conference after a video conference with the ministers. “De-escalation is urgently necessary. Iran may not have an atomic bomb and diplomacy is the solution to prevent this,” said Kallas.
During the video conference, the ministers called on all parties to adhere to international law, to exercise restraint and to avoid actions that could get out of hand. Kallas received support to try to contribute to a diplomatic solution on behalf of the EU.

“We cannot be indulgent when Iran speeds up his nuclear program,” she noted.

During the consultation it was also agreed that Member States will help each other to evacuate their citizens.
Now that the conversations between the US and Iran have been “in a kind of impasse,” the European Union and Europe have been playing an important role in achieving a diplomatic solution, the politician said. “We are also in contact with Iran and Israel to really de-escalate the situation. Stability of the region is in everyone’s interest.”
It should be prevented that the US is immediately involved in the conflict, Kallas said. If that happens “that will deposit the region into a larger conflict and that is in no one’s interest”. The American minister Marco Rubio emphasized during a telephone conversation with Kallas that it is also not in the interest of the US to get involved in this conflict, Kallas said.

The EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs will continue to talk in Brussels on Monday.
