Trucker caught with 1 million euros in his cabin: 2.5 years in prison

A 58-year-old man from Boxtel who transported 1 million euros in cash in his truck was sentenced on Wednesday to 2.5 years in prison. The police arrested the man in July 2021 on the A58 near Oirschot and found the gigantic amount of money that had been hidden with great difficulty. De Boxtelaar was also involved in international trade in soft drugs.

When the police arrested the 58-year-old man, they found a box of money in the cab of his truck. It was hidden under a sheet under a mattress. The 50 and 200 euro notes were wrapped in plastic. The man was behind the wheel and there was a Rotterdammer in the truck with him.

The man from Boxtel thought he was transporting 150,000 euros, he says. But he does not clarify the origin of the money or to whom he had to deliver the amount. The court in Den Bosch therefore finds that the man must have known that the money was not legally earned.

Hemp to Italy
According to the court, De Boxtelaar was also involved in the trade in soft drugs. 40 grams of hemp and 9 grams of hemp buds were found in his house. The hemp was packed in a postal parcel with a waybill for a courier service.

Police investigations show that in September 2020 the man already offered a package to a delivery service containing more than 800 grams of hemp and hashish. The package should be delivered to a customer in Italy.

The man was allowed to await the verdict in freedom, but now disappears into the cell.
