The International Sports Court CAS temporarily suspended the Ethiopian Vice World Champion Diribe Welteji shortly before the beginning of the World Athletics World Cup due to a suspected violation of anti-doping regulations.
The 23-year-old must not start over 1500 m and 800 m in the title fights in Tokyo as planned. The CAS announced this on Friday. Welteji is suspected of having refused a doping control outside of the competition without giving reasons.
Ethiopia’s national anti-doping authority initiated a procedure on May 21, but acquitted the Middle Streckler in August. The World Athletics Association then made an appointment with CAS – with success. The third in the world year’s best list is now suspended for the time of the CAS process.
The medal attendant ran over 1500 m in Budapest behind the Kenyan World Recordler Faith Kipyegon in 2023. Last winter, the Olympic fourth also won silver at the Hallen World Cup in Nanjing.
