Among the men, top favorite Tom Vander Hoogerstraeten was the first to emerge from the water after a one kilometer swim in the Brugse Reitjes. However, his race fell apart due to a flat tire during the 45 kilometer cycling part.

Heemeryck catches up

Sander Heemeryck started the cycling test in sixth place, but quickly closed the gap. With a lead of about one minute, he started the final ten-kilometre running test. He no longer gave it up.

“I started with a lot of doubts,” says Heemeryck, who suffered a broken hand earlier this season. “I didn’t really know where I was standing, I was still a bit afraid of falling on the bike. But next week the Iron Man in Frankfurt, I hope to be on the same footing there.”
