Tree falls on roller coaster in Spanish amusement park near Salou: fourteen people injured | Abroad

Drama Sunday at the PortAventura World theme park, in northeastern Spain: a gust of wind uprooted a tree, which then fell on the Tomahawk roller coaster. “Some branches hit passengers in the attraction,” the amusement park said in a statement.

Fourteen people on the ride were injured, local authorities said. A total of five people have been hospitalized, two of them in serious condition.

Ambulances and a helicopter were deployed to help the injured passengers and take them to surrounding hospitals, Spanish media reported. The regional police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, have launched an investigation.
