A year ago, Kristoffer Olsson lost consciousness. The reason: a serious brain disease. Now he wants to play football again – in his home country.
Kristoffer Olsson and FC Midtjylland are now going separate paths. The Swedish international has agreed on a contract termination after his serious brain disease with the Danish club. For the 29-year-old, the closeness to the family is now in the foreground. He wants to work on a comeback in his hometown of Norrköping at his youth club and Swedish first division IFK.
Around a year ago, Olsson had a rare inflammation of the brain vessels on several small blood clots. In February 2024, he suddenly lost consciousness and was admitted to the Aarhus University Hospital. There he had been artificially ventilated for a long time. Later he was moved to a rehabilitation center for neurological diseases for further treatment. There Olsson gradually gained his motor and linguistic skills.
“First and foremost, I continue to dream of being a soccer player,” said the midfielder. He wanted to train fully again and have the feeling that he could help his team. “I feel progress every week and I’m more hungry and more motivated than ever,” said Olsson. It means a lot to be able to train near family and friends in the future.
Olsson switched to FC Midtjylland for the second time in his career in the summer of 2022. For Sweden’s national team, he was in his career 47 times in the field.
