Travis Barker’s long-in-the-making documentary about his 2008 plane crash is finally coming to Hulu this summer.
The streaming service announced Wednesday that “Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear” – which explores the Blink-182 drummer’s life and career in addition to the 2008 crash – will premiere this summer, as “Billboard” reports.
“It’s an unfiltered look at my journey after a life-changing experience while highlighting the amazing people in my life who got me through it. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to capture this and share it with all of you,” Barker said at the Hulu Get Real House event.
More than ten years of work
“This documentary started over ten years ago, it’s been a wild, wild journey – and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Hulu describes the film this way: Barker embarks on a brutal and redemptive journey that began after he survived a devastating plane crash that nearly cost him his life – “beneath the glare of fame, the film reveals a complex man battling pain, grief and the fine line between survival and giving up.”
Barker and his friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein survived a private jet crash in South Carolina on September 19, 2008, which killed four people: Barker’s bodyguard and his assistant, as well as the two pilots. A year after the accident, Goldstein died of a prescription drug overdose.
Scars, surgeries, fear
Barker himself had to undergo multiple surgeries and skin grafts to treat his severe burns. He later spoke openly about his own prescription drug use in the aftermath of the crash, as well as his fear of flying, which he did not overcome until 2023.
Rob Mills, EVP of unscripted and alternative entertainment at Walt Disney Television, told The Wrap about Louder Than Fear: “Travis personally called about this documentary and said, ‘I want to tell this story… I was in this plane crash, I survived, and it changed me completely.'”
