Take a look back at your own work Metric. ROMANTICIZE THE DIVE is the Canadian indie band’s tenth album, and if you heard the pre-release single “Victim Of Luck” at a blind tasting, you wouldn’t be able to tell whether it was 2006 or 2026.
The band also indulges in reminiscences in the video for the track: with handcam shaky shots in lousy backstage rooms, people smoking in the van and drunkenly grinning with companions like Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Broken Social Scene.
Musically it’s nice and nice, but it doesn’t really leave an impression on the album track: solid synth indie that wants to please and therefore avoids experiments. After all, highlights like “Time Is A Bomb” or “Clouds To Break” show, with clever production and top melodies, that Metric could bring the noughties into the here and now if they wanted to.
