The trains from Bad Bentheim to Neuenhaus have been running again since 2019. And with success. Not the expected 1,700, but 2,200 to 2,500 travelers use it per day. It is expected that continuing to Coevorden will yield 900 to 1,000 passengers per day. “Important for cross-border workers. But also for German students in Emmen and tourists. How nice it will be if you can take your bike on the train for a day’s cycling in the Grafschaft”, says transport deputy Nelleke Vedelaar.
That is for the ‘near’ Germany. But the train connection also creates a good and faster opportunity to get to ‘distant’ Germany from Drenthe. In Bad Bentheim you can take the train to Berlin and in Rheine you can quickly go to the Ruhr area and to the south of Germany.
