Travelers angry at Eindhoven Airport: ‘They leave people to their own devices’

A malfunction in the baggage handling system at Eindhoven Airport caused a lot of inconvenience on Saturday. People had to wait a long time in arriving planes, flights were delayed and people were stranded at the airport, which was closed in the evening. Travelers complain about the long waiting times and the lack of information.

“They leave people to their own devices,” complains Shirina. She wanted to go to Rome with her family on Saturday, but had to wait eight hours. “Nobody from Ryanair, no crisis management, but Eindhoven Airport also has nothing extra to eat, no hotel and if you wanted, everything was full.”

Yvonne also had a miserable evening. “We had a flight at 8.50 pm. At 9.30 pm we were informed that we were delayed until 10.30 pm. Finally we were able to board. But before we were allowed to board the plane, we were able to turn around. After another two hours of waiting with no information, we got our suitcases back. Completely ridiculous how people are treated,” says Yvonne.

Eric had to pick up travelers on Saturday who had been on their way from La Palma since 12 noon. The trouble started there with a delay of two and a half hours. Then they had to wait here for hours on the plane.

Not fun for travelers, but it is also frustrating for collectors: “I called the airport before I drove to Eindhoven because I didn’t feel like waiting there for hours (paid)”, Eric complains. “The employee I had on the phone couldn’t give me a sensible answer. So just wait. Keep an eye on the website. But you can’t find anything relevant there. Too sad for words,” says Eric.

“Fixed at Eindhoven Airport for the second day,” says Wouter. “Yesterday flight was delayed to this morning, but now still little action, so a flight from 09:00 was unable to make it again. One big misery again.”

“A month ago there were also problems with the baggage transport system at Eindhoven Airport”, Astrid knows. “Then the problem was solved within one hour. Suitcases were labeled and weighed. But they had to take them to a corner at the check-in desk themselves. Now that I see this again, I wonder if they have a new system or an outdated system ?”
