Sparta takes over Van Bergen definitively from FC Twente
Sparta has finally taken over attacker Mitchell van Bergen from FC Twente. The 25-year-old right winger, who has already been rental at the castle for the past six months, has signed a contract in Rotterdam until mid-2029.
Van Bergen made his debut for Vitesse in professional football and then switched to Heerenveen. After two seasons at Stade Reims, he returned to the Eredivisie at FC Twente in 2023. The club from Enschede rented Van Bergen to Sparta in the past six months. He already played fourteen games there and scored three goals.
“It was no secret that we wanted to keep Mitchell, after the successful last six months,, but in the first instance this was unfeasible,” says technical director Gerard Nijkamp. “This changed after Mitchell’s situation at FC Twente changed in the last few days. With Mitchell we add speed and dynamics to our selection.”
