In the past decades, Trammelant grew into one of the most important folkloric events on the coast. It once started as a small party around the old tram station from 1903, which celebrated its 75th birthday in 1978, but now the event attracts tens of thousands of visitors. “If the weather is good, there will easily be 40,000 to 50,000 people,” said Vandaele.
The traditional procession – with historical figures, elegant ladies and gentlemen in Belle Époque clothing, tennis players, pastors and numerous volunteers – again went from the old station to the park. The atmosphere was right right away, thanks in part to the summer weather.
“It’s a real folk festival,” the mayor said satisfied. “If the weather stays so beautiful, people will enjoy themselves. Everyone will pick up their grain: not only the traders, but also the many associations and volunteers who make this possible.”
