Trains are running again after an accident in Deerlijk

At 8:10 a.m., a collision between a lorry and a train took place at the level crossing on Pladijstraat in Deerlijk. One person on the train was injured. A truck driver got stuck after a maneuver at the level crossing, in which he also ignored the red light at the level crossing, according to Infrabel.

Train traffic restarted

The truck was towed away in the afternoon. After that, the damaged train could also be transported to Kortrijk with an auxiliary train. Infrabel’s teams also carried out the necessary repair work on an overhead line pole, the level crossing installation and on the track. After the necessary tests and checks, train traffic could be restarted at 5.45 pm. There will still be follow-up delays in both directions.

In the event of an incident at a level crossing, notify the emergency services

Infrabel repeats its call to always be careful near level crossings. The rail network manager also reminds you what to do in the event of an incident at a level crossing. First you get yourself to safety. You then notify the emergency services to be able to stop train traffic. You pass on the information from the sticker that sticks to the post of the level crossing. This procedure was not followed in the accident, as a result of which the train could no longer avoid a collision.
