Trainer Jans and technical director Streuer stop at FC Twente

FC Twente has to look for a new head coach and technical director. Ron Jans and Jan Streuer will stop at the club after this season, so was announced through its own channels on Sunday after the home game won against FC Volendam (3-0). The duo has been working in Enschede for two and a half years. In that period, Twente regained a place in the sub-top of the Eredivisie, after the club was relegated in 2018.

The management of FC Twente has unsuccessfully asked Streuer to stay an extra season. “I am having a good time at FC Twente and I enjoy working with the people within the club,” he says in a response. “Nevertheless, I think it is good for the future of the club to now work with a new technical manager. I am happy to support him.”

Jans states that his “feeling” says that “after three seasons it will have been good”. FC Twente is in fifth place in the ranking, PSV (two points more), Ajax (three), AZ (four) and Feyenoord (six) are just above the Enschede team, who are particularly hard to beat in their own Grolsch Veste . Twente is especially strong defensively this season: the club has conceded the fewest goals in the Eredvisie so far.

Streuer has had a turbulent transfer period, in which he turned down several million-dollar bids from Feyenoord for midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki. The director refused to sell Zerrouki to a competitor despite the Algerian’s still short-term contract.

FC Twente hopes to get involved in the title fight this season. The team is six points behind leader Feyenoord. On Thursday, the team from Enschede were eliminated in the round of 16 of the cup by Ajax. In a European context, the season ended early: the Italian Fiorentina was too strong for FC Twente in the preliminary round of the Conference League.
