“I am ashamed of the arrogance and disregard”: Former Bundesliga coach Jesse Marsch in his function as Canada’s national football coach with US President Donald Trump.

At an appointment in California, March expressly distanced itself from Trump’s repeated statements to plans for conversion of the northern US neighbor to the United States.

“If I have a message to our president, then the to put an end to the ridiculous saying happiness via Canada as the 51st state of the USA”said Marsch at the media day about the National League finals of the Concacaf zone in Inglewood near Los Angeles.

The former “coach of the year” of the North American professional league MLS also described Trump’s statements hurtful for people in his current election home: “As an American, I was ashamed of the arrogance and disregard that we have brought up to one of our historically oldest, strongest and most loyal allies.”

March has been since May 2024 National coach Canada

Marsch, who had to put his post on the Bank of Saxony at the end of 2021 at RB Leipzig after only 20 games as head coach, has been responsible for Canada’s national team since May last year. His goal is the best possible result at the 2026 World Cup finals in their own country, the USA and Mexico.

In Inglewood, in addition to Canada, hosts also compete as defending champion and spicy, the teams from the countries of Mexico and Panama, which were already disparaged by Trump. A duel between Marsch’s Canadian team and the eleven from his home country USA is only possible in the final.

Similar to the turbulent ice hockey derbies between Canada and the USA, March sees a political charge of the tournament through Trump’s provocation towards Canada as well as Mexico and Panama. At least with a view to his team, the 51-year-old predicted that “These international comparisons for Canada now mean something different. I know that we have the mentality and the will to show exactly what the Canadian character is on and off.”

On the same appointment, Mexico’s trainer Javier Aguirre also showed his lack of understanding for Trump’s positions. The 66-year-old made it clear that the demand from the White House was not accepted after a renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America: “For me it is obvious that it is the Gulf of Mexico.”
