Train with 230 passengers stranded near Breda due to problems with overhead lines

A train with around 230 passengers stood still at Breda for more than two hours on Monday evening. Due to a fault, the voltage on the overhead wires was lost, meaning that trains could no longer run. It concerned a Eurostar train that was on its way to Antwerp.

Buses came to the place where the train was stranded. Four enforcers were ready to guide passengers from the train to the buses. “It is quite slippery, so we still have to look at how we can best evacuate people,” the ProRail spokesperson said.

ProRail reported around a quarter to eight that the overhead lines have been restored. This means that passengers could remain on the train to continue their journey. Half an hour later the train arrived in Belgium.

ProRail also announced that passengers had light and heating the entire time the train was stationary. Two other trains were also stranded between Breda and Rotterdam on Monday evening, but were soon able to continue their journey.
