Train traffic to Zandvoort halted for a while due to collision

Train traffic between Amsterdam and Haarlem was briefly halted on Saturday afternoon because a bus collided with a railway viaduct in Haarlem. The bridge was reopened after about half an hour, ProRail reports.

Due to the Formula 1 race that takes place in Zandvoort this weekend, ProRail is extra alert on the rail route towards the coastal town. Additional people were deployed to quickly resolve the problem, a spokesperson said. The Amsterdam-Haarlem route forms an important train route to Zandvoort. Tens of thousands of Formula 1 fans will travel to the coastal town this weekend for the Grand Prix.

As far as is known, few people were affected by the interruption. Most race fans were probably already at the track, where qualifying started at 3 p.m.
