Train traffic disrupted again: now due to strike in east and south, and power failure

Today, the railway employees in the vast majority of the south and east of the Netherlands are laying down their work, but the consequences there are not limited to those regions only. The timetable is also slightly disrupted in North Holland.

Strike NS Zaandam – NH Nieuws / Mischa Korzec

The strike in the south and east mainly affects travelers on two North Holland routes. This is how they drive between Alkmaar and Amsterdam Central and in between Amsterdam Central and Utrecht Central fewer intercity trains than usual.

However, there are more restrictions, because in addition to the strike, the NS was also affected by a power failure on the railways. It ensures that between Schiphol Airport and Hilversum driving fewer intercity trains, and between Amsterdam Central and Hoofddorp no sprinters. This lasts until about half past eleven this morning.

trip planner

Yesterday’s strike in the Central Netherlands is still echoing in North Holland. Since the day-to-day coordination of personnel and trains is arranged from this central region, this has an effect on train traffic across the country. The trains may not all be in the right place today.

“Take into account longer travel times and more frequent transfers”, advises the NS. “And plan your trip shortly before departure in the travel planner.”
