Travelers cannot currently take the train from Deventer to Zutphen – or vice versa. This is due to possible damage in a tunnel under the track on the Veenweg. An inspector must now assess whether there is damage to the rails.

Train traffic between the two cities has been halted since 10:40 am. There are no trains running at all. Currently, the disruption is expected to last until 12:30 p.m., but that end time is subject to change.

“Road traffic collided with the tunnel at the Veenweg in Deventer,” says Aldert Baas, spokesperson for manager ProRail. “It is standard that we first inspect everything in terms of safety and check whether there is any damage.”

In almost all cases this is not the case and train traffic can be restarted quickly. “But the contractor, who has to determine whether there is damage, is still on his way. So it could take a while,” says Baas just after 11 a.m.
