Hannover’s Mayor, Belit Onay, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and delight, stating, “Many people in Hannover are looking forward to an incredible weekend of top sports and an amazing event. It will be a summer highlight.” The ambiance was heightened by clear skies as the spectators gathered by the Maschsee, excited for the festivities.

Basketball player Sonja Greinacher described the atmosphere as akin to “a national Olympic feeling.” Greinacher, who won a gold medal in the 3×3 basketball event in Paris 2024, reflected on the growth of the Finals: “I know from my experience back in Berlin seven years ago how much this event has evolved.”
Support for Future Olympic Games
Olympic silver medalist Clemens Wickler also seized the moment to advocate for Germany’s capacity to host the Olympics, stating, “The Finals show that Germany is ready for the Olympic Games. It’s high time they return to Germany.” The country is aiming to bid for the Games in 2036 or later.

Over the next four days, the Finals will promote sports in Germany extensively, with over 30 hours of live television coverage and multiple simultaneous livestreams. NDR Deputy Director Andrea Lütke noted the importance of showcasing the diversity and unifying power of sports.
