After the international match between Germany and Finland, the ZDF broadcast ends with a sad message. Moderator Katrin Müller-Hohenstein remembers a deceased colleague.

After the international match between Germany and Finland, ZDF presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein ended the live broadcast with emotional words. Müller-Hohenstein remembered a deceased colleague from the sports department. Marcel Bergmann was an editor at ZDF and died on Sunday at the age of 62.

Shortly before midnight, Müller-Hohenstein said on live TV, visibly moved: “It was a nice evening of football, but sometimes football is just the least important thing in the world.” And further: “We at the ZDF sports editorial team lost our colleague Marcel Bergmann today. Highly valued and simply very liked. He worked for us at ZDF for many, many years and was also involved in many football tournaments, was a big Schalke fan – and now he is no longer there. We are very sad and will always remember him fondly.” Then the show ended.

According to a report by “Express”, Bergmann had worked for ZDF since 1991. He had been a permanent employee of the station since 1995. He was also in action for several World Cups. According to his own statements, Bergmann was dependent on a wheelchair as a paraplegic after a serious car accident in Kenya in 1994.
