Ulm throws out trainers and managing directors. The floundering third division team wants to improve things by cutting personnel. A letter previously caused a stir.

Personnel cuts at SSV Ulm: The struggling third division football team has separated from its managing director Markus Thiele and its coach Moritz Glasbrenner. The club announced this late on Monday evening, saying it was the result of “numerous discussions over the past few days and weeks”. The separation from Thiele, who was not only managing director but also a board member, was “amicable”.

Coach Glasbrenner only took office in mid-September. He was the successor to Robert Lechleiter, who was fired after a mixed start to the season. In addition to Glasbrenner, assistant coach Max Kohlenberg also has to go. The second division relegated team is in danger of relegation after 14 games in the third division and is 18th. On Saturday Ulm suffered a 0:5 defeat against Hansa Rostock.

There is currently chaos in Ulm. Various media reported on an internal letter from Johannes Reichert and Christian Ortag, which became public on Sunday. In these, the two captains described grievances in the club and the team and asked the supervisory board for help. The “situation within the team” was “unbearable,” it said: “The atmosphere is poisoned, trust is destroyed. The relationship between the team, coach and, above all, the sports director is completely broken.”

The association confirmed the existence of this letter on Monday. It was “unfortunate” that “confidential information was leaked and this caused additional unrest,” said a statement from the supervisory board and the executive board.
