The MSV Duisburg returns to German professional football. In addition, history was written.

A single goal was enough to remove all doubts about the comeback of MSV Duisburg in professional football. The “zebras” at Borussia Mönchengladbach II prevailed 1-0 (1-0) in the Borussia Park on Friday-and thus secured the promotion to the 3. League.

The encounter was not held as usual in the smaller border stadium, but in the larger stadium of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The reason for this was the enormous demand from the fans: Already two days before the game, all tickets for the guest area were out of print.

The Duisburger were supported by 16,096 supporters – this was the largest away set in the history of the regional league. A total of 20,893 spectators watched the game on site. Because of the big rush, the game started with a 15 -minute delay.

The MSV has been sporty since the withdrawal of the KFC Uerdingen on Tuesday with one leg in the 3rd division. Only another withdrawal, such as 1. FC Düren, could theoretically have kept the sports fans in the promotion race. Nevertheless, the Duisburgers left no doubt and sealed the promotion with the success of the Gladbach reserve.

For the MSV Duisburg, the step means returning to professional football. Duisburg had played in the Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season, and in 2018/19 the Meidericher ran in the 2nd Bundesliga. At that time the dramatic crash began.
