Here’s what you should know about rhodium

Rhodium is a silver-white, high-gloss, hard precious metal and belongs to the platinoid group. It is very similar to other platinum metals such as palladium or platinum itself. The raw material rhodium stands out from the other platinum metals due to its thermal conductivity and its electrical conductivity.

One of the most important properties of rhodium is that it has a high melting point and is very hard, harder than gold and platinum. In powder form, it is extremely flammable.

Rhodium occurs only rarely in nature and cannot be mined directly. The precious metal is most found in South Africa, Russia, Canada and Zimbabwe. Due to the similarity and the low reactivity of platinum metals, the extraction of rhodium is very complex. Rhodium is therefore only mined to a small extent.
