Marbella (AP) – The Austrian Dominic Thiem has lost his first game after months of injury. The 2020 US Open champion lost 3-6, 4-6 to Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round of the Challenger tournament in Marbella.

Thiem (28) had not played a tennis match since June 2021 due to a hand operation. Recently he had to postpone his return several times because he did not feel completely fit. Against Cachin, number 228 in the world, Thiem had to admit defeat after 81 minutes.

There was also a defeat for the Swiss Stan Wawrinka. The three-time Grand Slam tournament winner lost to the Swede
Elijah Ymer 2:6, 4:6. The 37-year-old Wawrinka had not played a match for more than a year due to some injuries.
