Tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann has reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel. The 30-year-old from Weinheim prevailed in 2:31 hours 6:3, 6:7 (5:7), 6:4 against Iwan Gachow.
The Russian entered the tournament at short notice as a so-called lucky loser for Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, who was ill. In the round of the top eight at the clay court event, which is endowed with 534,555 euros, Hanfmann meets the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem, who won the Austrian duel with Sebastian Ofner 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 3. Hanfmann is the only German in the main field of Kitzbühel.
