UN-X Mobility driver Tobias Johannessen collapsed after the 16th stage of the Tour de France on the summit of Mont Ventoux. The Norwegian was then removed with an ambulance. Team boss Thor Hushovd was able to give slight all -clear.
Norwegian Tobias Johannessen collapsed on Tuesday after the target on the Mont Ventoux on Tuesday. The eighth of the overall ranking was treated immediately by the medical staff and, among other things, supplied with oxygen. A little later he was removed with an ambulance.
UN-X Mobility team boss Thor Hushovd commented on “TV2” about the bad scenes, but at least gave slight all-clear. “Fortunately, he is a little better. He recovered. He had abdominal cramps that are very painful. He is just down the mountain on the way,” said the former world-class driver.
He does not know whether Johannessen can continue the tour. It was too early to say that, said Hushovd.
“I hope everything goes out well”
Johannessen’s brother Anders told the Norwegian TV broadcaster: “The last thing I heard is that he was better. He had pain in the abdominal area. I think they were slowly going away. He told me to drive into the valley and prepare for the stage tomorrow.
He assumes that everything will end well, added Johannessen. However, getting the news of his brother’s collapse was not nice. “I hope that everything goes out well and that we can ride a bike race together tomorrow.”
The fact that Tobias Johannessen made the climbing game on over 1900 meters had difficult to see before the target. Hushovd explained that his driver also had breathing problems in addition to abdominal difficulty. The 25-year-old crossed the finish line completely invalidated and, with a face-frowned face, as 28th with a gap of 5:11 minutes.
