With Weghorst at the point of the attack, Ajax found it difficult to create danger. Before halftime, the team from Amsterdam had nothing to say and saw AZ hit the post via Ruben van Bommel. Yet for the neutral spectator it was a poor first half with little excitement. “It was a fighting match,” says Goes about the North Holland derby.
AZ managed to take control of the match. Ruben van Bommel gave the starting signal with a shot against the post and then Troy Parrott and Mayckel Lahdo scored the goals for the Alkmaarders. “You break them in the second half. So I think we deserved to win,” said Goes.
